During the Second World War Ringhoffer-Tatra manufactured heavy trucks for the Germany army and heavy industry. Fuel shortages meant that alternative fuel use was essential to keep the nation running. Wood and coal gas engines became commonplace for trucks and commercials. This required some minor modification to the standard diesel engines used by Tatra and others.
