1959 Tatra 141 Truck Prospectus - English

The Czech nationalized motoring concern, Motokov, were keen to export Tatra vehicles worldwide in order to raise hard currency. Tatra cars and some trucks were exported to English speaking countries. Canada, with its rugged environment was a targeted market.

Tatra continue to manufacture hardy trucks around the world. The Australian agency is Offroad Trucks in Perth, Western Australia - https://tatrat600.blogspot.com/2020/09/tatra-offroad-trucks-australia.html

Tatra Offroad Trucks Australia

Tatra is not dead! In fact the company is alive and well and continuing to build the tough, unkillable trucks that made the company famous. Tatra trucks continue the technology and design principles developed by Hans Ledwinka and his team in 1924, including the central tube chassis, independently sprung and driven half axles, bevel drive and air-cooled engines. Tatra trucks regularly compete in the world's toughest endurance challenge, the Paris-Dakar race, with great success.

If you're in need of a hard working truck in Australia, check out Tatra's Australian dealer, Offroad Trucks, Australia, located in the suburb of Maddington in my home city, Perth, Western Australia. They have a range of vehicles for all uses and can have bodies customized for specialist requirements. Check them out here: https://www.offroadtrucks.com.au/

Tatra Triporter

Tatra manufactured a wide variety of vehicles, from trains and trams to trucks and luxury cars. At the bottom end of their commercial range was the triporter. These small delivery tricycle were quite common in Europe. The triporter used the strong tube chassis characteristic of Tatra, making it extremely robust.

So robust in fact that they could be bodied with an enclosed cab in the style of the Tatra T12.

A Collection of Tatra Articles

Classics Monthly - March 2006

This article lightly covers the 'controversy' whether Ferdinand Porsche plagiarized Hans Ledwinka's rear engine designs for the Volkswagen. The truth is he didn't 'copy' the Tatra but he did infringe some of Ledwinka's patents for the engine's air cooling, system. I also think doing a comparative road test between a 1938 Tatra T97 and a 1951 Volkswagen Beetle isn't really a fair test. The Volkswagen versus a Tatraplan would be a better comparison.

Unique Cars Magazine March 2011

Shortly after this story about the only running T87 in Australia was published in Unique Cars magazine the car was put up for sale and a new article was published in Australian Classic Car magazine in September 2012.

Although the sales pitch for the car included some dubious claims, the photos are magnificent. http://www.oldtimeraustralia.com/wp_car_dealer/tatra-t87-aerodynamic-limousine/
br /> Sadly the car did not find a buyer in Australia and was sold in the US by RM Auctions. http://rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1061023
